Alternatives

After extensive public and agency involvement, consensus was achieved among the Citizens’ Subcommittee, Agency Working Committee, and the Plans & Programs Committee and the Authority Board of Commissioners voted to formally identify the Alternative 5, Presidio Parkway, as the Preferred Alternative in the Final EIS/R.

Alternative 5: Presidio Parkway Alternative (Aerial view) The Presidio Parkway alternative replaces the existing facility with a new six-lane facility and an eastbound auxiliary lane, between the Park Presidio interchange and the new Presidio accesses at Girard Road. The Presidio Parkway alternative combines a high-viaduct with two short cut-and-cover tunnels and an open depressed roadway with a wide, heavily landscaped median. View Video   View Cross Section

Prior to the selection of the Preferred Alternative, the following alternatives were also considered:

Alternative 1: No Build Alternative (Aerial view)  The No-Build Alternative consists of retaining the existing Doyle Drive with no major improvements to the project area beyond what is already programmed by the year 2020. It provides the baseline for existing environmental conditions and future travel conditions against which all other alternatives are compared. View Video   View Cross Section

Alternative 2: Replace and Widen Alternative (Aerial view) This alternative would replace the existing Doyle Drive with wider structures in the same location to provide the most current seismic, structural and traffic design standards possible to maximize safety of the facility while minimizing the affects to the Presidio.
